The foremost application for this valve is in installations where hygiene is of the utmost importance. Using a knee-operated valve reduces the risk of cross infection that can occur where hand-operated valves are used. Hospitals, laboratories and clinics, and establishments where food is served or manufactured are examples of where these valves should be specified. The knee-operated valve is also recommended for use in institutions where handicapped or frail patients have difficulty in using conventional water fittings. The Barwil knee-operated valve is normally installed at a convenient height under the basin or sink, and can be operated with a light pressure with the knee in any direction. All metal parts of the fitting are chromium-plated and the control lever is fitted with a non-slip knee pad. Where the valve is used with a spray nozzle it is recommended that the water supply should be at a maximum temperature of 43°C (109°F). |
